WHO WE ARE

Centro de Idiomas y Computación was created in 1995 both as a translation bureau and a foreign language (English, French, Italian and Portuguese) and computing-studies school. Since then and until December 2005, the organization was featured by implementing an innovative computer-aided language learning system, delivering both regular and very specialized courses (Reading comprehension and translation, English for business and foreign trade, Spanish for foreigners, Trilingual secretary studies, etc.), giving counseling on student exchange programs, coaching foreign teachers, serving as a Training Unit for small and medium-sized companies and operating as an Examination Center for the distance learning careers offered by Universidad Siglo 21 (Córdoba). In 2006, the organization discontinued the teaching of languages to devote itself exclusively to translation and interpretation services.

Celebrating her 25 years as a translatorThe firm is owned and directed by Silvia Bacco, who has been working as a sworn translator since 1980. After graduating from Universidad de Buenos Aires, she performed in the city of Buenos Aires until 1992 and then moved to the city of Rafaela, in the province of Santa Fe (Argentina), where she still lives. Nevertheless and thanks to the Internet, Centro de Idiomas y Computación can nowadays serve requirements for translation services all over the country and even abroad. The fact of being accredited by the Translators’ Associations of both Buenos Aires and Santa Fe sets her performance in a serious and reliable field of action.

Centro de Idiomas y Computación’s directressUpon the belief that the translation, as a profession, makes it possible for speakers of different languages to communicate not only on a linguistic but also on a cultural setting, Silvia has been involved in different events as a columnist for local newspapers and radio stations, as a writer of journal articles, as an exhibitor at local and regional trade fairs, as an examiner of speeches at translation congresses, as a training-course designer and as a planner of linguistic tourism projects. She also made trips abroad to know the state-of-the-art technology as applied to the teaching of foreign languages in developed countries.

Training course at UCEL University (Rosario)Moreover, being firmly convinced that continual training is necessary in order to cope with the ever growing requirements imposed by technology and globalization, Silvia has attended more than forty events such as training courses, congresses, seminars and lectures in the field of translation and teaching. Also, with the end to supplement and enrich her profession, she trained herself in other fields, such as foreign trade, management of e-learning projects, educational and translation-services marketing, quality control standards and the use of specific technological tools.

As long as translation and interpretation services are concerned, she has worked for both individuals (mainly, legal documents) and companies operating in fields such as metallurgy, metalmechanics, machinery, food and pharmacology. The services rendered to each of them are related not only to the technical specialty distinguishing said firms, but also to their foreign trade, human resources, marketing, accounting, maintenance, quality assurance systems, institutional communication, environmental policies, legal affairs, etc. Other groups of clients are the technical publishing houses and the international translation agencies.

Centro de Idiomas y Computación is strongly committed to assure the quality of the services offered, by regularly reviewing continual improvement processes and monitoring both its results and the satisfaction of its clients, from which the organization can professionally grow and receive feedback.
